Baladi News – Damascus (Hossam Mohammed)
Assad’s regime allied media sources from Damascus said that the regime is going to eliminate the Religious Education subject from the schools’ curricula soon, because it “spreads subversive ideas to the society”, which can be exploited by the so-called enemies of the homeland.
Amal al-Ai, a Syrian teacher, said to Baladi News, “Assad’s regime Mufti, Ahmad Hassoun, and the Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Mohammed Abdul-Sattar Al Sayed, are the ones responsible for recommending such a radical change.” She suggested that the mufti had previously informed a large number of teachers of eliminating and substituting the religious education with a cultural subject.
Al-Ali added that, “Hassoun was trying to feel what reaction the Syrians could show regarding the gradual change of religious subjects, until a decision was taken to fully eliminate them.” She also indicated that the results of the promotion that had taken place short time ago appeared today, which means that a real war against the Islamic religion is the main goal of such a decision. This is concurrent with the campaigns of spreading the Shiite faith as the correct one in Syria, especially amid the high Iranian penetration in the country.
Assad’s media mentioned on social networks that Damascus regime wants to eliminate the religious education subjects in order for the citizens not to fall in and adopt deviated religious thoughts, which is seen by observers as an open war against the Sunni majority in Syria and a blatant aggression against the Islamic religion.
Meanwhile, Syrian journalist, Mohammed Abdul Rahman, thinks that taking such a procedure by the regime is expected and aims at supporting the phenomena of Shiism in the country, especially after decades of fighting Islam by Bashar al-Assad and his father since they grabbed power.
In a phone call with Baladi News, Abdul Rahman said, “The majority of the Syrian people are Sunnis, and children learn the pillars of the Islamic faith at schools. So, eliminating this subject would facilitate deviating children and orienting them as Assad and his supporters will in the future.”
The journalist indicated that the Syrian regime assigned a figure who has close ties with the presidential palace the task of deviating the correct education of the Syrian people and openly fighting the Islamic religion that unites millions of Syrians by passing strict legislations, introducing radical changes to basic education, and deviating students from the original identity of their ancestors.
